About the project

We were tasked with a significant challenge at Vodafone: optimizing a complex and fragmented cloud footprint that spanned 48 separate AWS accounts within Vodafone TV Program. This landscape included critical production, pre-production, and development environments, presenting a clear opportunity to introduce a centralized FinOps framework to drive efficiency, governance, and cost control.

What & how are we delivering?

Our delivery was a multi-phased strategic initiative designed for maximum impact:

1. Deep analysis: we began by performing a thorough analysis of historical cloud consumption, establishing a clear baseline, and mapping every cost to its specific business value.

2. Automated optimization: we developed powerful automation to proactively detect and eliminate recurring waste. This was complemented by hands-on analysis and optimization of existing solutions from both an infrastructure and a development perspective.

3. Strategic partnership: our team transitioned into an ongoing advisory role, driving sustainable value creation through proactive oversight. We provided transparent, data-driven tracking of quarterly savings to validate all FinOps initiatives, while continuously monitoring to prevent unexpected costs.

What is the added value for the client?

The value delivered to Vodafone extended far beyond simple savings, providing a strategic advantage:

_Transformative cost efficiency: we provided true cost visibility, enabling one project's price tag to be reduced by an exceptional 85%. This revitalization saved the project from being decommissioned and empowered it to also be integrated into new markets.

_Sustainable practices: we successfully embedded a culture of financial awareness within their technical teams, ensuring that cost optimization and best practices become a long-term, sustainable part of their operations.

_Demonstrable ROI: the realized savings significantly offset the investment in the FinOps team, delivering a clear and tangible return on investment for the business.

_Enhanced credibility: delivering measurable, high-impact results has powerfully reinforced our reputation as a trusted, results-driven FinOps partner.

_Reusable strategic assets: we created a suite of proprietary automation tools that reduce waste detection, which can now be deployed for current and future cloud engagements.

_Consolidated expertise: the project validated the profound effectiveness of our structured FinOps framework, solidifying it as a core, battle-tested asset for all our cloud initiatives.

_Empowered team skills: our team gained valuable experience through FinOps, validated by the official FinOps certifications achieved during this project, which will be applied in future projects to embed a FinOps-driven mindset.

_Realized savings through FinOps

The financial impact of the Vodafone TV FinOps initiative is a clear testament to its success.

Through the FinOps initiative and its success-fee model, we secured direct, validated annual savings of over $150,000.  

In parallel, additional annual savings of over $165,000 were realized by optimizing and improving the accounts managed under Celfocus.

These combined results highlight a tangible financial impact of over $315,000 for Celfocus, and Savings for Vodafone totalling more than $1.5 million during the project duration. This demonstrates not only significant cost avoidance but also the long-term value of embedding FinOps practices across organizations.
