In the past, good design in software was almost always a frustrating compromise

Today, Design is key for the success of the technological revolution we are witnessing

For every new gadget, it was common to hear users say, “this phone is so amazing, and I’ve only been able to use a small part of it.” This unused sophistication led one of the greatest manufactures of mobile phones to bankruptcy. And opened doors to this new obsession for design and experience – leading to the idea that we can all learn to use the technology available and that it can even be a pleasure!

Today, the same piece of software needs to capture the fleeting attention of a Millennial and efficient adaption of a Baby Boomer. That in itself is a huge challenge for engineering and that’s where Design gains greater exposure. Businesses with a digital footprint understand that - which is why they are so committed to transformation.

For all those building this technological revolution – it is ever more interesting to learn to merge business, technology and design. The life of technologist has never been this interesting and challenging!

In this talk from 2003, design critic Don Norman turns his incisive eye toward beauty, fun, pleasure and emotion, as he looks at design that makes people happy. He names the three emotional cues that a well-designed product must hit to succeed.

Residential Service @ Vodafone Portugal running over a new platform

Vodafone’s Residential Service is a voice over IP (VOIP) solution for operator’s fixed consumer markets. Over the years, this solution had been supported by a platform which was recently discontinued (MAS platform).


In 2017, Vodafone awarded Celfocus with the opportunity to evaluate a new platform to support the Residential Service solution. Celfocus’ Unified Communications team successfully evaluated the new platform and implemented the required solution adjustments. As of February, all VFPT consumer fixed-market customers are successfully making calls using R17.4 service running over MCAS.

A new tariff plan made for you by you!

“Vodafone You” is Vodafone Portugal’s most recent and exciting tariff plan. As of February 14th (infamous Valentine’s Day), the operators customers have the power to select between hundreds of possible plans based on their needs and preferences (voice, data, SMS).

To make the most flexible plan available to customers, Vodafone counted on Celfocus’ team to create the processes necessary to support agents in both call-centres and shops.
