A year has passed since the first lockdown, one many of us believed wouldn't last more than two weeks… a month, maybe. But after one year, the governmental authorities have extended Work from Home until the end of 2021.
We had to learn a lot from this: new ways of collaboration, communication, chilling and, of course, getting things done… All happening in the same spot: the world around my desk.
But why is this so different from what we had before, at the office, where we share the same principle of using exactly a chair, a desk, a keyboard and a computer monitor?
In most cases, the circumstances at home are not ideal for extended working periods. Office facilitate routines for us to rest and chat - simply by walking or standing up for a bit. This is not easy in many situations at our homes – it’s not practical – thinking of our personal space or even old habits we have at home: when dozing off on the sofa; eating in the kitchen; getting a coffee at the window or balcony. All this by sharing common spaces with co-hosts.
Are we experiencing a better work-life balance?
We can find many articles, studies and opinions discussing advantages and concerns about hybrid working models. And many of us are seriously considering working from home during some periods of the month, in the future.
As all this is new, we must re-think how to keep our private space isolated and comfortable. Learning from what we like and dislike about the lockdown experience - shaping a home experience with better hybrid work life balance.
But keep in mind that part of this is not just related to furniture or physical spaces. A significant part came from personal behaviours and individual routines: how we segregate our personal life from work, in a healthy way.
The new version of CELFOCUS Order Management is live on the Kenyan operator’s business support systems.
Telco operators face a triad of challenging conditions daily. They deal with offer complexity driven by customers’ different demands, which come from multiple channels and need to be addressed quickly. Secondly, they urge to shorten the response to market needs to keep up with competitor moves. Finally, they need to streamline the fulfillment chain, bearing all the involved business support systems.
Leader in the Kenyan Telco market, Safaricom puts customers at the heart of operations. Safaricom was the first client to launch our product in 2009 with version 1 and it was also our first client to launch version 6.
The product consists of a master orchestrator that maps, sequences and fulfils any external or internal customer request. Featured with cloud and microservices capabilities, CELFOCUS Order Management performs decomposition and bulk orders, centralises request management and accelerates order design and implementation. Due to its code-free nature, it improves time-to-market by eliminating downtime and reduces operational costs by leveraging Kubernetes automation capabilities.
It is time to celebrate, Celfocus Order Management version 6 is live at Safaricom since early March with more than 100.000 order created.

VTV is a multi-network video solution (OTT, DVB, DTT) offering Live TV and Video-on-Demand. It's mostly a cloud-based solution (AWS) deployed in multi-region and it was already live in 8 other Vodafone markets.
Celfocus has played a major role in tuning these requirements into reality and making this launch a huge success. We are absolutely proud to say that VTV solution components can be tagged as "Celfocus" inside and that DTV, Analytics and OMI BUs have been responsible for implementing and delivering several new components encompassing a vast array of technologies / platforms such as: Google APIGee, Microservices, Kubernetes, Redis, AWS IoT, AWS Cognito, Lambdas, DynamoDB, AWS SNS, SQS, RDS, ALB, Step-functions, EMR, ElasticSearch, ElasticCache and many others.
The work developed and the commitment shown by our VTV Program team towards this accomplishment is one we must be proud of.
Celfocus Insider, our open day initiative, returned in a fully digital edition. On March 25th , a group of 24 students spent the morning with our team and learned more about the company, explored different dimensions through engaging zoom rooms covering technical demonstrations, culture and career growth.
Using agile practices and routines, students discovered more about each other, the organisation and the importance of teamwork when trying to complete an espace room.
Almost 100 future engineers have already participated in this initiative and witnessed what it’s like to be part of the company for a day while better understanding what they can expect when starting their professional path.
The third edition of FutureNet World will take place on April 20th and 21st.
Celfocus is pleased to sponsor FutureNet World 2021 and have a double participation on the first day of the event. Celfocus will be sharing experience and expertise on network automation and AI, alongside industry experts and CSPs.
Bruno Silva Santos, Business Development Executive at Celfocus, will open the first day at an executive roundtable about “The data challenge – strategies to optimise data management as the foundation for automation”. This exciting peer-to-peer information and idea exchange will take place at 11.30 am BST.
Carla Penedo, Cognitive Automation Senior Expert at Celfocus, will conduct the presentation “Realising the 5G promise: a journey towards zero-touch operations”, also on April 20th, at 3.30 pm BST. Carla will tackle the main challenges of the 5th network generation and the key pillars to move to zero-touch operations. Doing so, she will share critical use cases and real-life experiences. In the end, Carla will participate in a Q&A held by Mark Newman, Chief Analyst at TM Forum.
The work Carla will be presenting has also been recognized by the organization and is currently nominated for the Automation Solution Award of FutureNet World 2021 in the “Leading solution for Network Automation/Autonomous Networks” category! Learn more about the solution in this video.
